Peak, guitariste du groupe :
"We
thought -How You Remind Me- had a great chance
being a single, but the idea that we thought it was
going to be a hit in the States, never mind the planet,
was ludicrous.
People keep telling us that it's
a bit of an odd phenomenon, but all we've ever done
is be a rock band. The basics of a rock song should
be a good melody.
And then all of sudden we're
in the charts, right next to boy bands and dance artists.
And you know what ? We're flippin' the middle finger
to music moguls in the industry who think rock isn't
relevant.
We're showing everybody that rock is
still there and that's there's still an audience for
it. The strange thing about sellin' records is that
you're somehow put in the same company as people that
you don't really listen to. I find that pretty hard
sometimes..."
"There can sometimes
be a clash between being a good guitar player and wanting
to be a good songwriter. You have to check your ego
at the door when working on songs.
Sometimes
noodling or just going crazy over-the-top is exactly
what you need to do to make it more interesting, but
you have to realize that a lot of times when you could
really go to town, the best thing to do is step back
and leave those open spaces..."
"We
do want to make the best records we can, and if people
get a lot out of the CD then that's amazing. But you
don't get that live energy wth a CD that you get at
the show, and when you see it, you get all that energy,
along with the physical and the visuals that go along
with the music.
And you can't beat the social
aspect of things; being with a bunch of people in a
stadiums or a small club who are all getting into the
same thing. That's why we make such a effort with shows;
it's something special when somebody walks up and tell
you -we loved your CD, but you guys are much better
live-".
